In the Beginning
For me applying makeup on friends was a playful pastime and enjoyable hobby, but never considered a career option. "Who wouldn't love to be a Makeup Artist," I always thought. "It's not a real job. It's a dream job". That was until someone told me that they in fact would not like to do makeup. When I heard that, it clicked: Doing makeup is a real job!
Makeup Training
After getting my BA I decided to attend makeup training. My mother, who always encouraged me to pursue makeup, helped me to find the best school in the area. I trained in Boston at international makeup artist's, David Nicholas, school in 1996. There, under David, I learned all the skills of being a professional makeup artist for theatre, film & TV, print, and special events.
Makeup Today
I continue to love the art of makeup and feel passionate about every job I'm involved in regardless of its scope. I wait in excitement for the model wondering what she is going to look like and anticipating the look we're going to create. I enjoy getting to know the people sitting on my stool and making sure that they are relaxed and comfortable going into the shoot. I love collaborating with a director of a play as they describe the characters and I develop an image in my head. I see girls on the street and want to grab them and put them in my stool and transform them into goddesses. I love this job!
